Day 3 of 5 day weekend :)

Foxes digging in, no not quite, one naughty little dog...

Almost finished the moonscape except for where the last board is that is too heavy for me to lift on my own... I am really happy with how this area is turning out and I can't for it all to be a mass of green :)

Green manure up close, how green and fresh looking. The chooks love it!

Hilda on the left and Lucy on the right

Very hard taking photos with one hand, whilst feeding the chickens with the other hand, so I just kept snapping photos and then picked a few I liked...

Day 2 of 5 day weekend :)

This is the green manure 4 weeks later, growing nicely, although a little patchy so I have thrown some more seed in to thicken it up a bit.

Second section of the moonscape before I started today

Another before shot

...and another before shot

This was after I had prepared the ground removing rubbish, weeds, raking trying to make it easier this time to start digging. Last time I started digging with the weeds still in the ground and it was very hard. This photo really doesn't show you the huge holes in the ground. It actually looks reasonably level but it's far from it!

Leaf litter I raked up, it looked too good to throw out, so even though it does have a little cushion fluff through it, I am going to put it in my compost bin. Actually I am going to build my compost bin around this pile...

Weeds and general rubbish raked up from this entire moonscape

Rubbish collected from moonscape since the first day I stepped into the moonscape with much trepidation and my pants tucked into my socks...

This is where I finished off today, hopefully will finish digging and trying to level the rest tomorrow

Galah feeding time last night (I was keeping a careful eye that they didn't find my freshly sown seeds)

I'm starting to get very excited that my Moonscape is starting to come together and actually resemble a normal block of land. I had no idea where to start, but I started and I am almost there...

First day of 5 day weekend :)

Green Manure Seeds (Wheat, barley, oats and peas)

Soaking seeds overnight to see if they will germinate quicker

Front was all dug up last weekend, now here it is with seeds sown. Future veggie gardens

Fowl shed finally together and hopefully fox proof

Bought mesh from fodder shop and it's meant to be mouse and fox proof

Two new additions to the family - Isa Browns at about 12 weeks, another 10 weeks before they start laying. They were cute so I bought the little ones... I tore up newspaper to make it comfy on their feet, as I didn't have anything else. Also need to buy something for their food and water. I know nothing about chooks, but about to learn... I spent easily 30 + minutes in watching and interacting with them. I would like them to be friendly. Can already see their personalities coming through.

The fodder shop lady suggested a bag over the shed to make them warm, as it's so cold at the moment and they are still little, so I found this old blanket, which should help.

Not sure if Neddie wants to eat them for dinner or to play, but he has taken quite a liking to them. Every time we head outside he rushes over to the fowl shed. I'm not sure how to introduce him and the chooks to each other. It would be good to find out if he is going to eat them or protect them.
