Weeds, ducks and chickens

I have the caltrop weed growing everywhere, very prickly if you step on the seeds, or put one in your finger. So rather then weeding, I decided to put wet newspaper and cardboard down on my paths to stop it from growing. I am very happy with the result.

Feeding time, Ollie and Cleo coming for food, before I even had the food out.

Make a free bird feeder and bird waterer

Tonight I have just made a bird feeder and bird waterer (is that a word?) out of two terracotta saucers I am not using for anything.

I drilled 4 holes into each saucer using a masonry bit and keeping the terracotta wet.

Then using old clothes line I simply put it through the holes and hung in the pepper tree. One saucer is being hung on a hanging basket hook I found in the garden and the other is tied into a clothes hanger.

I need to seal the 4 holes on the bird waterer as the water is running through at the moment.


Now I just wait and see if the birds come...

Potato Harvest

Not sure when is the correct month to harvest potatoes, but the tops had died, chooks were enjoying digging them up, so I decided to harvest tonight. I got almost 3 kg's of potatoes, a little smaller harvest then I was hoping, but look good all the same :)
